Dear Flora Vista families,
The California state budget is in crisis. A decrease in funds available for education at the State level is directly affecting the Encinitas Union School District (EUSD). With a California budget deficit of over $20 billion, the EUSD will need to reduce spending by $5.9 millon for the 2010-2011 school year, including staff reductions.
Parent donations have been paying for important teaching consultants at our school in the areas of physical education, visual and performing arts and technology. Flora Vista has been using State budgets to fund part-time reading and math consultants. Flora Vista is anticipating a decrease of $25,000 in state funding and Flora Vista’s Encinitas Educational Foundation (EEF) reserve funds are almost depleted. This means that we need to increase our direct contributions to maintain these important consultants at Flora Vista for the benefit of your child.
The Flora Vista PTA and EEF are making an urgent call to action to all Flora Vista parents to raise an additional $40,000 in a spring “SOS Pledge Drive” by the end of this school year to fund these important consultants in 2010-11. If all Flora Vista families make an immediate cash donation of at least $100 per student and participate generously in spring fundraisers, we should be able to meet our total goal and keep these important consultants in 2010-11.
